The space elevator caused great uncertainty about the future of launch vehicals so, from the mid 21st century, few companies or governments were willing to invest in their development and few succeeded. The only reusable heavy lifter to be comercially successful in this period was the "Red Bishop".
Based the "White Knight" which launched "Space Ship 1" on it's successful X-pize attempt, the "Red Bishop" has a small docking body to which the payload is attached and two nacells containing fule and engines. There are three jet engines for supersonic and subsonic flight and two scram jets for hypersonic flight.
